Beverly Johnson (born 13 October 1952) is an American supermodel.

Beverly Johnson is one of the most important models in history. She made history when she rose to fame as the first African-American cover model of the American Vogue in August 1974. The cover was shot by Francesco Scavullo. Johnson's appearance on American newsstands was a landmark that helped expand the notion of beauty and it helped dispel the myth that white women would not buy a fashion magazine with a black model on the cover. She was not, however, the first African American model to appear on the cover of a Western fashion magazine. That distinction was given to the African American model Donyale Luna, who appeared on the March 1966 cover of British Vogue. Johnson was the top model, black or white for years following and to this day remains an original and working supermodel still commanding as much as six figures a day.

In June and July,2008, Beverly appeared as a celebrity judge on the TV Land series, She's Got the Look where women over 35 compete for a modeling contract and magazine spread.

Career and awards

Johnson was honored by Oprah Winfrey in her Legends Ball special.

In 2006, the New York Post Page 6 reported that she was being stalked by a former boyfriend in Los Angeles.

The July 4, 2006 edition on Page 6 of the New York Post reported that Johnson was the leading contender to replace Star Jones-Reynolds on The View. However, Jones-Reynolds was replaced by Rosie O'Donnell.
