Bakary Soumare

Bakary Soumare (b. 9 November 1985 in Mali ) is a Malian football (soccer) player who currently plays in the MLS for the Chicago Fire, having been the number-two pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft.

Biography

Bakary was born in Mali but moved to Paris, France at a young age , before moving to New York as a teenager .

Career

High School

He played for La Salle Academy, a Roman Catholic high school located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

College

He played for the University of Virginia during his freshman season, playing 20 out of 21 games .

MLS

In 2007 his rookie season he played 1,072 minutes for the Chicago Fire.

International

Soumare has expressed his desire to represent the United States at the international level once he becomes an American citizen. He expects to receive his citizenship sometime in 2009.
