Back Up Train is Al Green's first release, on Hot Line Records, prior to signing with Hi Records. As evident from the album cover, the singer had not yet dropped the last 'e' from 'Greene' at the time of this album's release. Hot Line was a label formed by Palmer James and Curtis Rodgers, high school friend's of Al Green.
