Prior to its launch on 17 January 1983, BBC regional radio broadcasting for Cornwall amounted to the breakfast show 'Morning Sou'West' on the AM frequencies of Radio 4 in Devon and Cornwall. Initially, Radio Cornwall shared an afternoon programme with BBC Radio Devon, but now sustains a full daytime service. The station also broadcasts a short weekly news bulletin in the Cornish language.
Radio Cornwall links up with other BBC local stations in the South West and West regions for a networked evening service, broadcast from Truro between 7pm and 1am.
Radio 5 Live's Up All Night is simulcast overnight after closedown.
In 2002, Eric Moore and Chris Blount did a tour of the entire Cycle Ways from Lands End to Bude, this included interviews with people of interest. They also visited gardens and Kings Harry Ferry. This went on for well over 2 years, but was only broadcast 3 times a weeks on Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday Afternoon.
The station hosts an annual singing competition at the Royal Cornwall Show, where Cornish singers compete in different categories to find the champion each year. Various guest judges have been on the panel in different years, including Nikki French and Naomi Lay.
