Az-Zahir (1176 - 1226) (Arabic: الظاهر بأمر الله) was the Abbasid Caliph in Baghdad from 1225 to 1226. He was the son of an-Nasir. In his reign, he lowered taxes, and he built a strong army. There is little said of him (and the next Caliph) beyond that he was mild and virtuous. The Crusades still dragged on, while the heirs of Saladin were contending bitterly among themselves. He died on 10 July, 1226, nine months after his rule.
