Asimov's Guide to the Bible, 1967 and 1969.

This work by Isaac Asimov was first published in two volumes, covering the Old Testament (including the Apocrypha) in 1967 and the New Testament in 1969. He combined them into a single 1300-page volume in 1981.

Replete with numerous black-and-white maps, the guide goes through the books of the Bible in order, explaining the historical and geographical setting of each one and the political influences that affected it, as well as biographical information about the main characters. Asimov treats the secular aspects of the Bible, free of theological commentary. It includes both biblical verse and subject indexes.
