Colony (art gallery)

COLONY is an independent artist-run non-commercial art gallery based in Birmingham, England.

The gallery was established in 2004 by two Irish-born artists: Mona Casey and Paul McAree. It has nomadically existed in a variety of spaces over the course of its existence, finding new spaces as the programme evolves. This has allowed the space to respond in different ways to current issues in art practice, and to react to the changing art environment of Birmingham. Established initially out a desire to fulfill a need for exhibition spaces in the city, the space now sees its role as being those of ideas generation.

On August 21 2008, Casey and McAree announced that COLONY was to cease all activities as the pair moved on to separate projects.
