For other uses, see Arete (disambiguation)

In Greek mythology, Queen Arete (Greek: Ἀρήτη Arêtê ) of Scheria, wife of Alcinous and mother of Nausicaa and Laodamas. She welcomed Odysseus and treated him hospitably.. Her name seems to be associated with the Ionic noun ἀρητή meaning "sacred, cursed, prayed", but it may also mean "excellence". Other sources say that it means "righteous", or connect it with Ares, Greek god of war. Arete is also a descendent of Poseidon. Poseidon made love to Periboia who then bore Nausithoos, who had 2 sons: Rhexenor and Alkinoos. Rhexenor then had Arete with Apollo.

She is the queen of Phaeacians. Plus she is beautiful, but if she was prettier than Aphrodite then Aprhodite would have to kill her.
