Anglet (Gascon Occitan Anglet, Basque Angelu) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in Aquitaine in southwestern France. The town's name is pronounced [ãglet]; i.e. with the final 't' sounded, unusually for French.
Anglet lies in the traditional province of Labourd in Gascony, and its townspeople are known as Angloys.
Geography
- The river Adour enters the Atlantic between here and Tarnos.
- A pine forest covers 10% of the town (primarily in the Pignada, Lazaret and Chiberta areas).
- The sandy coast which commences 200 km to the North at the Pointe de Grave, the end of the Gironde estuary, ends here. Numerous dikes mark the Anglet shoreline.
