Angelique Kerber

Angelique Kerber (born January 18, 1988) is a professional German tennis player who began playing tennis at age five. She currently has a career high ranking No. 67 in the world (achieved in August 27, 2007), and the second highest ranked German, behind Martina Muller. Her current ranking is #131 in the WTA singles rankings and #250 in doubles.

Career

From turning professional in 2003 until the end of 2005 Kerber played on the ITF circuit, where she won one title at Opole, Poland in 2004. She also reached the final at Warsaw in Switzerland but lost to Marta Domachowska.

2007

In the 2007 French Open she played in a Grand Slam Tournament for the first time, where Russian player Elena Dementieva defeated her in the first round. She also played in Wimbledon 2007, and was defeated by Russia's Anna Chakvetadze.

She lost to Serena Williams in Arthur Ashe Stadium at night in the first round of the 2007 U.S. Open - Women's Singles.
