Alexandra Park is a
neighbourhood located in downtown
Toronto,
Ontario,
Canada consisting of private and
public housing. The neighbourhood was founded in 1841 by Sir Casimir Gzowski, a
Polish engineer who immigrated to Toronto in 1841. He also built the
Grand Trunk Railway between Toronto and
Sarnia, Ontario. The neighbourhood was inhabited by Polish and
Ukrainian immigrants in the 1920s and 1930s. The public housing project was built in the 1960s. Demographically, the area now has many immigrants from the
Caribbean,
East Africa,
China and
Vietnam.
