Al Qaeda involvement in Asia has largely been centered on
Afghanistan and northwest sections of
Pakistan. Al-Qaeda also has affiliate groups, including
Abu Sayyaf in the
Philippines, and has carried out a number of attacks in
Indonesia. For a period of time in the mid-1990s,
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and
Ramzi Yousef resided in
Manila in the Philippines, and were plotting attacks including
Oplan Bojinka.
