• Lucius Licinius Murena, the Roman Governor of Asia, clashed with the Pontic forces of Mithridates VI, starting the Second Mithridatic War.
• A fire breaks out which burns down the Temple of Jupiter (Jupiter Capitolinus) and destroys the collection of Sibylline Books.
