The 5th Parachute Brigade was a war-formed brigade of the British Army during the Second World War.
History
The 5th Para Brigade was converted from the 72nd Infantry Brigade on 1 June 1943. It was attached to the newly formed 6th Airbourne Division.On 6 June 1944 this brigade was dropped into Normandy with the rest of the 6th Airbourne Division, as part of the D-Day Landings.
On 23 March 1945 it was involved in a second airbourne drop (Operation Varsity) over the Rhine and into Germany.
On 20 July 1945 the 5th Airbourne Brigade was flown to India and, after the end of hostilities, on to Singapore and Malaya where it aided in the disarming of Japanese forces.
