Potential bids

Europe

  • Copenhagen, Denmark

The organization of the Games in Copenhagen, is being investigated by the Danish government .

  • Paris, France

The French capital was unsuccessful in vying to be the host city for the 1992, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. 2024 will mark the one hundredth anniversary of the previous Summer Games celebrated in France. The French Minister of Sports, Jean-Francois Lamour, had made it clear that 2024 represents a choice objective for a Paris bid .

North America

Oceania

  • Brisbane, Australia

The subtropical city of Brisbane would seriously consider bidding for the Olympic Games in 2020 or 2024, former Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has said. His announcement came after IOC President Jacques Rogge said the IOC would love to see a bid from Brisbane in the future.

Australia had also previously hosted the 1956 Summer Games in Melbourne, and the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney. In 1985, Brisbane failed to win the bid for the 1992 Summer Olympics, which were held in Barcelona. However, Brisbane does have experience in hosting major international sporting events, having hosted the 1982 Commonwealth Games and the 2001 Goodwill Games.

  • Perth, Australia

Perth, located on the Western side of the continent is the most isolated city in the world. In 1962, the Commonwealth Games were held in Perth, as did the FINA World Championships in 1991 and 1998. The Red Bull Air Race hosts the final flag in Perth from 2006, and hosts the Hopman Cup, tennis championships every year. Perth will be trying out to apply to host the 2024 Olympic Games, and hope to be successful. If not, then Perth will try out for the 2028 Olympic Games.

  • Auckland, New Zealand

New Zealand is considering bidding for the 2024 or 2028 olympics. Although it is not a priority to the New Zealand Government, it would be a good way to advertise New Zealand and its capabilities.
