Notes

  • Lap Leaders: Kimi Räikkönen 11 (1-11) and Michael Schumacher 49 (12-60)
  • This was Marc Gené's last race to date. From the German Grand Prix to the Italian Grand Prix, he was replaced by Antônio Pizzonia.
  • This was the first podium finish of the season for a McLaren driver.
  • Jarno Trulli had a dramatic end to his race. He lost control of his Renault through the high-speed Bridge Corner, and hit the tyres on the inside retaining wall. The car then barrel-rolled through the gravel before coming to a rest just after Priory. Jarno was unhurt, although he did say he was "a little crazier, maybe".
  • Minardi removed all sponsor logos to mourn the death of the team manager, John Walton who died on July 9, immediately before the race weekend. However, after the event, the team lost their Dutch title sponsor Wilux, mainly because the logos had been removed without the sponsor's agreement.
