This contest was in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Argentinian May Revolution (May 25th, 1810). It was the first international tournament in South America where more than two football nations participated. Previously, there were only international competitions between the football teams of Uruguay and Argentina, as the Copa Newton, the Copa Lipton or the Gran Premio de Honor Argentino.
