The females have clear fins. In males Honey blue-eyes the first dorsal fin is black. Honey blue-eyes will school from about 25-70 individuals. Females lay 40-150 eggs within about one week. When the young Honey blue-eyes hatch, they will usually feed from the surface of the water, pucking up things such as Water Boat Men.
