Urobilin is a yellow linear tetrapyrrole, resulting from the breakdown of haem, a cyclic tetrapyrrole. Urobilin is generated in intestines from urobilinogen. It is absorbed into blood stream and excreted in urine that along with other chemicals and pigments give urine its characteristic yellow color.

It is a sensitive marker for early acute hepatitis.
