An under-vehicle inspection system is generally comprised of still or video cameras mounted within a ramp and used at facility access points, particularly at secure facilities. An under-vehicle inspection system is used to detect threats -- such as bombs -- that are hidden underneath vehicles. Cameras capture images of the undercarriage of the vehicle for manual or automated visual inspection by security personnel or systems.

Under-vehicle inspection systems can be permanent (embedded in the road), fixed (attached to the road), or mobile (portable).

Under vehicle inspection systems are known by the acronyms UVI (under-vehicle inspection), UVIS (under-vehicle inspection systems), AUVIS (automated under-vehicle inspection systems) and MUVIS (mobile under-vehicle inspection systems).

Available "Under-vehicle Inspection" Systems

Under Vehicle Inspection Systems (UVIS) are available in portable and fixed, in-ground configurations. Both models provide clear, panoramic, under-carriage images of vehicles of any heights or weights (can withstand up to 50,000lbs). Well equipped with eight high-resolution IR cameras, images can be captured in direct sunlight or complete darkness. Under Vehicle Inspection Systems come highly specialized depending on environmental requirements including: Portable Units with rapid 6 minute set-up time, UVIS with Air-Debris removal systems to ensure clear images in adverse weather conditions (rain, dust, wind), and Low Profile units for geographical areas that require snowplowing or street sweeping.

Under vehicle Inspection Systems are more highly effective when incorporated with additional security technologies including physical Access Control barriers/gates, biometric applications, surveillance cameras, and/or License Plate Recognition software. The Under Vehicle Inspection Systems, when installed with the additional security technologies, can simultaneously link the vehicle data collected to any pre-determined database, such as stolen vehicle list, amber/silver alerts, out-standing warrants, or a "entrance denied" listing.
