The Uighur people are Turkic people who are living in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China. They are also found in other countries, such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. The label Uighur continues to expand to different people. For instance, the origins of the word described people from the Tiele tribes in China and Mongolia, as well as the Altay mountains, but it now covers a whole ethnicity of people whose ancestors were affected by the Uighur migration.
There are many human rights group that are fighting for the Uighur people, including the Uyghur American Association and the Uyghur Human Rights project. These groups aim to give the Uighur people their rights and to free them from human rights abuse.
