Takaoka, city (1990 pop. 175,466), Toyama prefecture, W central Honshu, Japan, on the Sho River. A center for the Japanese aluminum industry, Takaoka also produces paper, copper, and chemicals.
Takaoka (高岡町; -chō) was a town located in Higashimorokata District, Miyazaki, Japan. On January 1, 2006 the town merged with two other towns into the expanded city of Miyazaki and no longer exists as an independent municipality.

As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 12,621 and the density of 87.29 persons per km². The total area was 144.58 km².
