Steve Nash is a professional basketball player who plays point guard for the Phoenix Suns. Born in South Africa, Nash played high school basketball in Canada and won a scholarship to Santa Clara University in California. He entered the National Basketball Association (NBA) draft in 1996 and was drafted by Phoenix. He was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 1998. There he was voted into his first NBA All-Star Game and helped the Mavericks move into the Western Conference finals.
Nash became a free agent in 2003 and returned to the Suns. He was named Most Valuable Player two years in a row and led the Suns to win the Western Conference Finals in 2005. He has been one of the league's top three-point shooters, free-throw shooters and has led the league in assists.
