Two sequels for the game were also created: Smuggler's Run 2: Hostile Territory, which was released for PlayStation 2 on October 30, 2001, and Smuggler's Run: Warzones, which was released for Nintendo GameCube on August 6, 2002.
The sales of this game were good. Many of the reviews penalize the game because of its high level of difficulty, while others praise it. A redundancy of gameplay and a frustrating difficulty seems to be a general consensus and a detriment to its receiving a higher average review score. Some reasons for difficulty: The police vehicles are significantly faster and have greater maneuvering capabilities. The time limits leave little room for error.
Due to mostly positive reception, Smuggler's Run has an average score of 79/100 on Metacritic.
