Shin splints is a common ailment that affects those who often participate in activities such a running, football or hiking. Shin splints is known technically as Medial Tibila Stress Syndrome and is caused by too much load and overwork on the muscles in the legs. One can also be more predisposed to shin splints due to bio mechanical irregularities. Weakened muscles in a persons core can also cause one to more easily be afflicted with shin splints. Shin splints most often occur when a person increases activity intensity and duration much too quickly. When this happens the muscles become fatigued much more quickly and as such, are less able to absorb shock. Shin splints can easily be treated by refraining from activity for a short time and icing and massaging the muscles.
