Shimane, prefecture (1990 pop. 781,005), SW Honshu, Japan, on the Sea of Japan. Matsue (the capital), Hamada, and Izumo are the most important cities. Stock raising, lumbering, and rice growing are important activities. The Oki Islands are part of Shimane.
was a town located in Yatsuka District, Shimane, Japan. On March 31, 2005, Shimane merged into the city of Matsue.

As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 4,292 and a density of 115.25 persons per km². The total area was 37.24 km².
