Radio Oglaigh na h-Éireann
was established in 1962 to provide a shortwave service to Irish Defence Forces
serving in United Nations peacekeeping
missions in the Republic of the Congo
. The service was discontinued after several years.
Daily broadcasts were made on 17.544MHz at 17:30 UTC, using a transmitter located at the Curragh Camp. Programmes, which were provided by Radio Éireann, included news, sports results, music and drama, including The Kennedys of Castleross.
