Sea Cliff, New York

Sea Cliff is a village situated along the water in Nassau County, New York on the North Shore of Long Island. Sea Cliff is also within the "Gold Coast" communities on the North Shore. Sea Cliff is known for its beautiful views and sunsets at Memorial Park, on Prospect Ave that looks out into Hempstead Harbour. The village also has its own beach on the harbor that is popular during the summer time. Hempstead Harbor receives a lot of boat traffic due to the three yacht clubs and two marinas that are situated in and by the harbor. One of the yacht clubs is in Sea Cliff (Sea Cliff Yacht Club) and the others are in Glen Cove (Glen Cove Yacht Club and Hempstead Harbor Club). The marinas are Brewers (In Glen Cove) and Jude Thaddeus (In Glen Cove). As of the United States 2000 Census, the village population was 5,066.

The Village of Sea Cliff is in the Town of Oyster Bay. It is a part of the North Shore School District.

The town hosts a street fair on the first weekend of October. This fair is host to many individuals selling crafts and food.

Sea Cliff was briefly the summer home of actor Natalie Portman, and the Pulitzer prize-winning novelist Robert Olen Butler lived here.

Sea Cliff is also the headquarters of Pirate's Booty, a snack food company.

Geography

Sea Cliff is located at (40.846388, -73.644526).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.1 km²), of which, 1.1 square miles (2.8 km²) of it is land and 0.9 square miles (2.3 km²) of it (44.67%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 5,066 people, 2,013 households, and 1,356 families residing in the village. The population density was 4,655.1 people per square mile (1,794.5/km²). There were 2,082 housing units at an average density of 1,913.1/sq mi (737.5/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 94.83% White, 1.68% African American, 0.10% Native American, 1.22% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.95% from other races, and 1.20% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.76% of the population.

There were 2,013 households out of which 31.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.1% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the village the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 27.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $78,501, and the median income for a family was $100,576. Males had a median income of $65,469 versus $41,146 for females. The per capita income for the village was $41,707. About 2.1% of families and 2.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 0.7% of those under age 18 and 10.6% of those age 65 or over.
