King Henry VIII School is situated north of the town centre, and has approximately 1500 pupils and 75 teachers. The school has no speciality subjects. It has an intake of mixed background pupils from the age of 11 to 18. The sixth form attracts many other pupils from other schools every year, and produces a number of students each year who go on to attend Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
The school uniform consists of a white polo shirt and navy jumper with black school trousers. It has many sporting teams and pupils have won national awards for, inter alia, Thai boxing, cross-country running and athletics.
The school is run by head teacher Gareth Barker. Gareth is a well respected member of staff according to research carried out by members of form 9N, with results showing that 73% of pupils in the school thought he dealt with issues in a calm, respectful manner.
