Rufen

[roo-fuhn]

Boots, a drug manufacturer from England, was the first company to use Direct-to-Consumer Advertising (DTCA) in 1983 when they advertised Rufen, their own brand of Ibuprofen, on television.

In 1980s, the mind set was against DTCA, however; in the 1990s, many drugs become available as Over-the-counter (OTC), which spurred growth in DTCA.
