"Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is" is a song by Australian rock band Jet, and is the third track on their second album Shine On. It was released 18 September 2006 as the lead single from that album in the UK, peaking at #23 in the UK Singles Chart (see 2006 in British music). The song was released to American radio outlets on 7 August. The song is also featured in a new commercial for Verizon Wireless.
The song has an instantly distinct rock n' roll feel with falsetto vocals from Nic Cester. It features a cowbell, a nostalgic guitar riff, and hand clapping during the verse. The song is relatively laid back during the verses, but the energy explodes during the chorus with growlier vocals, warm backup vocals, and more upbeat music.
The video for the song depicts the band performing in a room with an older look to the film, including crackles in the picture that intensify with the chorus.
The song was used on advertisements for the Australian Football League 2006 Finals Series on Network Ten, along with Wolfmother's "Joker and the Thief". Both of these songs are featured in the video game MLB 07: The Show. It is also featured in the closing credits of the Canadian version of the Dragons' Den. Fox Sports has used the chorus frequently on commercial bumpers during its coverage of the 2006 World Series and the song is the current at-bat music for Yankees' outfielder Melky Cabrera.
