  1. In falconer's jargon, "pere" may be a written abbreviation for peregrine falcon.''
  2. In the mythology of the Cook Islands, Pere is the daughter of Ma'uike, from whom Maui obtained fire and placed it into trees. Pere has some features in common with the Hawaiian volcano goddess Pele.
  3. Père is the French word for father. It is sometimes used as a suffix in French to distinguish a father from a son, e.g. Alexandre Dumas, père versus Alexandre Dumas, fils.
