SATA Air Açores is an airline based in Ponta Delgada in the Azores. It operates scheduled passenger, cargo and mail services around the Azores. It provides its own maintenance and handling services and manages 4 regional airports. Its main base is at João Paulo II Airport, Ponta Delgada.
History
The airline was established on
22 August 1941 and started operations on
15 June 1947. It was originally formed as a private company, but was transformed into a state owned company in 1980. It is 100% owned by the Azorean regional government. SATA Air Açores also wholly owns the subsidiary airline
SATA International. It employs 545 staff.

The airline's fifth BAe ATP was delivered in June 2007, on lease from BAE Systems Regional Aircraft, and will be used to facilitate further route expansion.
