Netaji Subhash Engineering College(NSEC) is a premiere engineering college in Kolkata, India. The college was established in the year 1998 and within 10 years of its foundation is regarded as one of the best engineering colleges of West Bengal and the Eastern India. It is situated at Panchpota, Garia of Southern part of Kolkata, just 1 km away from Garia Railway Station in Sealdah South Division, soon to be connected by Kolkata Metro and also connected by the Eastern Metropolitan By-Pass.
Netaji Subhash Engineering College (NSEC) has been set up, keeping in mind the ideals of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, whose contribution to the Indian Freedom Movement remains invaluable forever. Netaji had dreamt of vibrant, strong and powerful India, an India which would be independent and self reliant, not only politically, but also in the spheres of Education & Technology. He strongly believed that true independence can only stem from strong base in education and technology.
His vision is our beacon and to give a concrete shape to his vision, we have set up Netaji Subhash Engineering College. We believe in his ideals that intelligent minds are the greatest resources in any walk of life. Our vision is to infuse young intelligent minds with cutting edge technical education and help them to become matured professionals poised and ready to accept technical and managerial challenges in the global scenario.
Nature and Extent of involvement of faculty and students in academic affairs/improvements:
The Faculty members & students work together to make the institute a Centre of Excellence. The feedback system of the college is a bipolar process where the students & the faculty members help to improve each other and enhance their potentiality in every possible way. This is in turn paves the way for a strong academic foundation.
Mechanism/Norms & Procedure for democratic/good Governance
Student Feedback on Institutional Governance/faculty performance
The institute highly values the feedback of the students on institutional governance and faculty performance. A Feedback Form has been especially designed to that end. Every student is given this form at the end of every semester. The duly filled in forms are collected and later on discussed in the meeting of the Academic Council. The purpose is to help the faculty to develop himself/herself to deliver the best output.
Grievance redressal mechanism for faculty, staff and students
The grievances of the students are represented in the meetings by the Teacher-in-charges of the various streams. These issues are then discussed and resolved unanimously. The faculty members & staff make it a point to candidly discuss their specific as well as general problems in the meetings. The institution firmly believes that in order to excel a proper coordination between the faculty members, staff, students & management is indispensable
The courses offered by NSEC are approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the college is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT).

The college has also been selected for an educational grant from the World Bank in Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) as one of the few institutes in West Bengal. NSEC ranked Second in Project Implementation of TEQIP following Jadavpur University which bagged the First place in West Bengal. The college has also been awarded with the BEST PRACTICES AWARD under TEQIP.
At NSEC, maximum importance is given to in-depth studies in IT and its related fields. Without diluting this basic goal and with an aim to produce professionals with sound knowledge in IT., we also intend to further sharpen our students by imparting specialized training in different advanced topics in management and technology so that our outgoing students can become not mere professionals knowledgeable in IT, but technically and managerially confident professionals with good communication skills - a more matured and better marketable product.

Government of India organizations like the Indian Air Force(IAF) and the Indian Army also intake students from the college. The college records the highest placements among the TECHNO INDIA Group of Colleges.
This is the official tech club of NSEC. The club organizes many events like Career Fests ,Mock Campusing ,Quiz Competitions, Aptitude Tests and Seminars on various topics in association with professional organizations like 'CAREER LAUNCHER', 'ERUDITE', 'IMS' etc...,as a result of these events, the campus placement rate of the college has grown up hugely. Nixal - the GNU/Linux user group of Netaji Subhash Engineering College (NSEC) was formed by the college. This group is basically the brainchild of Mr. Asish Biswas, a student of the Computer Science & Engineering Department of the college. Nixal was inaugurated by Richard Stallman on 19th February 2003. The group was formed to learn about and contribute to GNU/Linux and spread the message of free software movement. This Group Follows The Open Source Software ethics.Though after 2005 the activities of NIXAL saw a gradual decline but lately there is an effort to revive it. NIXAL now comes to exists as a open-ended user group. - Nixal Official Website
The College Library is well equipped with around 47,000 books, journals and references. The Library also has a huge collection of software and other educational tools. There is a book-bank scheme for all the students of the college where the students can issue up to 10 books at a time without having to return any of them before their semester examinations. There is also a full-fledged e-Library in function (LIBSYS). The college campus is connected by Wi-Fi network thereby enabling the student to access the library from anywhere in the campus.
The students of the college take part in various National Level Competitions and have won accolades all over the country. Some of the major competitions are
Various Competitions organized by IITs, NITs, Jadavpur University etc.
National Level competitions organized by IEEE.
National Level competitions organized by Birla Industrial & Technological Museum
Apart from academic events, the college calender also consists of three major events. These are:
The Freshers Welcome is organized every year to incorporate the students of First year to the College life and students. The freshers welcome titled BLOSSOMS has seen students' performance as well as reputed bands like Fossils, Eshaan and other Bangla Bands.
Mesmerizer, the annual cultural fest of NSEC usually held in March/April every year is often regarded as one of the best college fests of Kolkata sponsored by companies like IBM, Wipro, Air India, Coca Cola and other multinationals. The Cultural program is a mixture of rock and classical music. It all started in the year 2002, the first Fest of NSEC. That very year the first batch of B.Tech passed out from NSEC. That time the guest performers were Chandrabindoo, Nachiketa, Cactus and Bhoomi. After that it started growing bigger and bigger and since then celebrities who have performed for Netaji Subhash Engineering college are -- KK, Kunal Gunjawala, International Band Euphoria, Bombay Vikings, Bangladeshi Band Miles, Bangla bands like Lakkichhara, Cactus, Fossils, Eeshaan, Prithibi ,Chandrabindo and Bhoomi. - Click here to visit the Mesmerizer Website
The Annual Tech Fest Avenir is one of the earliest Tech Fests of Kolkata was set up in lines with Kshitij of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. The tech fest has seen participants from almost all the major engineering colleges of India. It started in the year 2003 with a participation strength of 100 only. Over the years it has grown enormously with Avenir 2008 seeing participants count of over 1000 from all major engineering colleges of India.
The first batch of the college faced a tremendous problem as far as placements were concerned. Being a new college with little known credibility, the students faced an uphill task to land up with jobs. This problem was faced by the subsequent batches till the year 2004 when for the first time, a corporate placement cell was formed. The problem with placement assistance is apparently no longer a issue. However, only software giants visit the campus. Government majors like Indian Oil Corporation and the other Navaratna Companies of India still reject students from self aided engineering colleges of the state of Bengal.
Another problem often faced by the students of the college is the lack of a brand name. The finest management institutes of India and the Ivy-League American Universities still do not take any interest in private engineering colleges of Bengal.
However, as the days go on, it is expected that the college will emerge as a technological power-house in India and will be recognized as one of the prestigious and finest Technological Schools of India.
