Your correspondent, Mr Sipho Puwani, makes a common mistake by labelling the "militarisation" of the police as a sinister development in itself. This is not so. By their very nature, police forces around the world tend to be paramilitary organisations - regardless of rank-titles or nomenclature - simply because they cannot be anything else and still function effectively.
