The term
leva (
English: for
"Coward"), is used by
Chicano urban/barrio youth to mean that a member of a group has turned his or her back on the rest. Also meaning that a member of a gang or group has disappointed his or her peers by joining another group/gang. The term is also mainly used by
Latino Gang Members from the
Norteño,
Sureño and other Latino gangs throughout the United States. The term is mostly used to state that a member from the Gang is a
Leva for hood-hopping or set-tripping (Meaning that they have joined an enemy gang from their original gang).
