Powerslide is a braking method used in
inline skating. It is a relatively advanced way of braking.
Advantages
- Due to its advanced nature, this move commonly impresses onlookers.
- This stop is an effective way of coming to stop within a short distance.
Disadvantages
- It tends to leave flat spots on the wheels and sometimes even on the frame of the skate.
- It is not economical.
- It is relatively ineffective on rougher surfaces.
Forward powerslide
(also known as a full frontal powerslide)
This type of powerslide starts with the skater skating forward and rotating 90 degrees to a stop.
Backward powerslide
This type of powerslide starts with the skater skating backward and rotating 90 degrees to a stop.
Roundhouse powerslide
This type of powerslide starts with the skater skating forward and rotating 270 degrees to a stop. The skater effectively does a transition from moving forward to backwards and then stopping.
