The slogan is often said to have been created by Fay Weldon, who has since said that she was just the manager of the person who created the phrase.
It is now 50 years since the ad was first run. There has been controversy since reruns of the TV commercial, starring the comedian Tony Hancock and actress Patricia Hayes, have been banned by the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre which defended its decision, insisting that the adverts did not suggest a varied diet. The advert has been made available on an anniversary website instead.
