Iron Foundry

Iron Foundry

Iron Foundry (Russian: Zavod, literally "Factory", also translated variously as "Steel Foundry" or "Mechanical Ballet") is the most well-known work by Soviet composer Alexander Mosolov. It was completed in 1928 as part of the ballet Stal ("Steel"). A short piece (an average performance takes less than 4 minutes), it is a prime example of socialist realism in classical music. Intended to glorify the age of industrialization, it imitates the sounds of a factory, even including a part for metal sheet.
