Role-playing conventions (cons) have been run in Victoria since 1982. They have ranged from single-day events with 50 participants to a five-day, 24-hour-a-day events with 600 or more attendees.
Most of the conventions have been run in a non-profit mode, where income is collected to offset costs and provide for a starting capital for the following year. Most of the events are independently run, although attempts have been made to organise an informal collection of convention organisers in order to share information and advice (such as ConVict).
