Indophenol

Indophenol

[in-doh-fee-nawl, -nol]
Indophenol is an artificial blue metachromatic dye, obtained by the action of phenol on certain nitrogenous derivatives of quinone. Indophenol resembles the color indigo in appearance. Dichlorophenol-indophenol (DCPIP), a form of indophenol, is often used to determine the presence of vitamin C, or ascorbic acid. Indophenol blue has the systematic name N-(p-dimethylaminophenyl)-1,4-naphthoquinoneimine.
