Hot plate

A hot plate is a small electric stove often used in food preparation, generally for small dishes in places where a full kitchen stove would not be convenient.

Hot plates are often used in laboratory settings to heat glassware. Some hotplates also contain a magnetic stirrer, allowing the heated liquid to be stirred simultaneously.

This type of cooking equipment is completely electrical and can thus used very environmentally friendly (if the power comes from renewable resources). In addition, it is low cost (usually little more than 20€ for a 1000W plate ) ensures that it may be used in the developing world. As such, it can be considered an appropriate technology.
