Mountainous region, northwestern Myanmar (Burma). Extending along the Indian border, it forms the central part of an arc that stretches from the Arakan Mountains to the Patkai Range. The Chin Hills vary from 7,000 to 10,000 ft (2,000 to 3,000 m) high. They and the arc are part of the north-south-trending mountain belt of Southeast Asia, which has hindered east-west movement; the region was populated by the Chin peoples from the north. It is a frontier zone between Myanmar and Indian cultures.

Group of mountains in western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming, U.S. Occupying about 6,000 sq mi (15,540 sq km), they lie between the Cheyenne and Belle Fourche rivers and rise to a maximum elevation of 7,242 ft (2,207 m) at Harney Peak. Their name refers to the dark appearance that their rounded hilltops and well-forested slopes present at a distance. The Sioux Indians were guaranteed treaty rights to the region in 1868; however, the discovery of gold in 1874 led to an influx of white miners and to the Black Hills War (1876), including the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Tourist attractions include the mining town of Deadwood, Mount Rushmore and Jewel Cave national monuments, Wind Cave National Park, and Custer State Park, all in South Dakota, and Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming.

City (pop., 2000: 33,784), southwestern California, U.S. It is surrounded by the city of Los Angeles and adjoining Hollywood. It was established in 1906 as a residential area called Beverly. The Beverly Hills Hotel was built in 1912. Movie stars Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks lived there in 1919, beginning the fashion among Hollywood celebrities of building lavish homes in Beverly Hills. Occupying an area of 5.7 sq mi (14.8 sq km), the city is crossed by the famous streets of Sunset Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, and Rodeo Drive.

Segment of the Appalachian Mtns., western Massachusetts. Many of its summits exceed 2,000 ft (600 m), including Mount Greylock (3,491 ft, or 1,064 m), the highest point in the state. The wooded hills are a continuation of the Green Mtns. of Vermont; they include the Hoosac and Taconic ranges. Crossed by the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, the Berkshires contain state parks and forests and are the home of the Tanglewood summer music festival (in Lenox).

The first citrus juice plant in Florida, was built in Howey-in-the-Hills by William John Howey in 1921.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.9 square miles (4.8 km²), of which, 1.8 square miles (4.6 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (4.86%) is water.
There were 385 households out of which 27.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.9% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.4% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.80.
In the town the population was spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 29.0% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 98.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $49,327, and the median income for a family was $51,458. Males had a median income of $39,773 versus $27,727 for females. The per capita income for the town was $23,273. About 3.4% of families and 5.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.5% of those under age 18 and 2.2% of those age 65 or over.
