In politics, there is a tendency on the far left and right for a proliferation of tiny groups, often known by the French term groupuscules.

This is particularly common in Anarchist, Fascist, Stalinist and Trotskyist groups.

This tendency was famously satirized in Monty Python's Life of Brian in which various groups (the People's Front of Judea, Judean People's Front, Judean Popular People's Front and the Popular Front of Judea (only one member!)) spend more time and energy fighting and insulting ("Splitters!") each other than the Romans
