golden chain: see laburnum.
The Naqshbandi Golden Chain is a lineage spiritual masters of the Naqshbani-Haqqani sub-order related to each other going back to the Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be peace and blessings. It is a chain in which each scholar was given ijaza, permission, by his own teacher to transmit the knowledge he had received to the next generation of students in the traditional manner of Sufi transmission. The Golden Chain, as different from all other Sufi lineages, is unique in that it stems from the first caliph of the Prophet, upon whom be blessing and peace, Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, may God be well-pleased with him. From Abu Bakr, the secret of this transmission was then passed to Salman the Persian, may God be well-pleased with him. From Salman the Persian, the transmission passed to Al-Qassim ibn Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, may God be well-pleased with him. From Al-Qassim the transmission passed to Imam Jafar as-Sadiq. From the Imam as-Sadiq, the transmission passed to the following chain:
