This is a partial list of Afghan security forces members killed in the War in Afghanistan (2001-present).

Besides serving as an indicator of some of the numbers of policemen, soldiers and private military contractors (PMC's) deaths during specific time periods, this article allows readers to investigate the circumstances of those deaths by reading the citation articles.

Totals

Through September 28 2008 approximately 3,150 policemen, 671 soldiers and 196 private security guards were reported to have been killed.

2008

Between March 16, 2008 and September 16, 2008 an estimated 720 policemen were confirmed to have been killed. Since the start of the year up to August 13, 2008 an estimated 800 policemen and soldiers were confirmed to have been killed.

• January
• January 3 - A suicide bomber attacked Indian road construction workers and their Afghan police escorts in the province of Kandahar killing seven people, including six policemen.
• January 7 - A roadside bomb killed one policeman and one intelligence officer in the province of Helmand.
• January 13 - Various Taliban attacks in the country killed nine policemen.
• January 14 - An attack by Taliban commandos on a popular luxuary hotel in Kabul left six people dead, including two PMC's.
• January 24 - Nine policemen were killed during an anti-Taliban operation in Ghazni province.
• January 25 - A roadside bomb killed four soldiers in Khost province.
• January 27 - A Taliban ambush in the province of Helmand left two policemen dead.

• February 5 - A roadside bomb killed two policemen in Kandahar province.
• February 8 - A suicide bomber killed one soldier in Ghazni province.

• March 20 - NATO-led troops killed a policeman and wounded another in Helmand province by mistake.

• September 13 - A Taliban attack on a district center killed seven policeman and two were captured.
• September 16 - An intelligence officer was killed along with his family in Kunar province.
• September 18 - Two policemen were killed in an ambush in Khost province. Three policemen were accidentaly killed by Australian soldiers in Tirin.
• September 21 - Various Taliban attacks in the country killed one policeman, one soldier and two PMC's.
• September 24 - Various Taliban attacks in Kabul killed six policemen.
• September 25 - Various Taliban attacks in the country killed two policemen and 11 PMC's.
• September 28 - A female police lieutenant-colonel was killed in Kandahar by gunmen.

2007

The list for 2007 only contains the reports of deaths of Afghan soldiers and security guards and not policemen because at the end of the year it was confirmed that 1,019 policemen were killed in attacks.

• January 18 - A suicide bomber killed one soldier in Paktika province.
• January 27 - Taliban militants killed an Afghan intelligence official. They shot dead director of intelligence of the Yaqoobi district in a market in Khost province.
• February
• February 7 - Three PMC's were killed and two were wounded when an explosive-packed motorcycle exploded in Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province.
• March
• March 23 - 15 PMC's were killed and four were missing when a convoy transporting logistics for NATO troops was ambushed in Shahwalikok district of Kandahar province.
• April
• April 1 - A suicide bomber killed two soldiers in Laghman province.
• April 15 - A suicide bomber killed four PMC's in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province.
• April 25 - A roadside bomb attack on an Afghan military convoy in the Wazekha area, in Paktika province left seven soldiers dead. Three PMC's were killed when Taliban fighters stormed a road construction company site near the main highway between Kabul and Kandahar.
• May
• May 17 - A roadside bomb struck the vehicle of a private security company in Kandahar killing four PMC's.
• May 30 - A roadside bomb struck the vehicle of a private security company in the province of Helmand killing two PMC's.
• July
• July 9 - An Afghan soldier who had links with the Taliban shot and killed four soldiers at an army base in Herat, he also wounded another 10 Afghan and two U.S. soldiers.
• July 16 - A suicide bomber killed one PMC in Kandahar.
• July 17 - A roadside bomb attack on an Afghan military patrol in Helmand province left three soldiers dead.
• July 18 - In Loghar, near Kabul, a shooting attack occurred near an office which gives security advice, the attack left a PMC and his driver working for a non-governmental organisation dead.
• July 21 - Taliban militants attacked a convoy of a private security firm in the Bakwa district of the province of Farah leaving four PMC's dead.
• July 30 - Taliban militants killed 10 PMC's in the south of the country.
• August
• August 11 - Taliban militants ambushed Afghan and NATO-led troops in the province of Badghis killing seven soldiers.
• August 12 - Two soldiers were killed in heavy fighting in Oruzgan province after militants stormed an army outpost.
• August 18 - A suicide bomber killed four PMC's in Kandahar along with 11 civilians.
• August 22 - A suicide bomber killed one PMC in Khost.
• August 23 - Taliban militants wearing Afghan army uniforms raided a NATO base killing two soldiers and injuring 11 NATO troops. 10 PMC's were killed when a convoy transporting logistics for NATO troops was ambushed in Zabul province.
• August 28 - Various militant attacks in the country left six soldiers dead.
• August 29 - A suicide bomber killed two soldiers in Khost province.
• August 31 - A suicide bomber killed two soldiers in Kabul.
• September
• September 3 - A landmine explosion killed six PMC's in Kunar province.
• September 13 - Clashes in the south of the country left one soldier dead.
• September 20 - Militants killed one PMC in Zabul province.
• September 23 - Three PMC's were accidentaly killed by U.S. soldiers. Three other PMC's were captured in a Taliban attack.
• September 29 - A suicide bomber attacked a military bus in Kabul killing 28 soldiers and two civilians.
• October
• October 27 - A suicide bomber wearing an Afghan security uniform detonated his explosives at the entrance to a combined U.S.-Afghan base in Paktika province killing four soldiers.
• October 30 - A roadside bomb struck the vehicle of a district intelligence chief in the Qarghai district of Laghman province killing him and three colleagues.
• November
• November 10 - A Taliban ambush in Nuristan prvoince killed three soldiers along with six U.S. soldiers.
• November 26 - A roadside bomb struck an Afghan army vehicle in Paktia province killing four soldiers.
• December
• December 5 - A suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into a minibus carrying Afghan soldiers south of Kabul killing seven soldiers and six civilians.
• December 18 - Taliban militants killed 15 PMC's in an ambush near the town of Bala Boluk in the province of Farah.
• December 30 - Taliban militants killed six PMC's in an ambush on their convoy on Afghanistan's main highway in Wardak province.
• December 31 - Five soldiers were killed in various Taliban attacks in the country.

2006

• August 2 - Taliban militants attacked a police checkpoint in Nuristan province killing four soldiers and four policemen.
• August 4 - The head of intelligence in the province of Zabul was shot dead by insurgents.
• August 17 - A roadside bomb killed one policeman in Kandahar province.
• August 18 - A Taliban ambush killed one soldier along with an American one in Kunar province.
• August 21 - A roadside bomb killed two policemen in Zabul province.
• August 22 - A roadside bomb killed two policemen in Oruzgan province.
• August 31 - Militants kidnapped David Addison, a British engineer, and his interpreter after an attack in western Afghanistan that left at least three policemen dead. Addison’s body was found September 3.
• September
• September 4 - Various Taliban attacks in the country left eight policemen dead.
• September 6 - Fighting in Ghazni province left six soldiers dead.
• September 17 - A Taliban attack in Kabul killed three policemen.
• September 18 - Fighting in the east of the country left two policemen dead.
• September 21 - Fighting in Paktia province left two soldiers dead.
• September 22 - A soldier was killed in an operation to arrest a top Taliban commander.
• September 26 - A roadside bomb killed two policemen in Helmand province.
• September 27 - A PMC guarding a presidential candidate was killed along with the candidate in Mazar-e Sharif.
• September 28 - A militant on a motorbike killed nine Afghan soldiers when he blew himself up outside an army training center in Kabul. A land mine killed two policemen in Kunar province.

• December 28 - A roadside bomb killed one soldier along with an American one in Kunar province.

2004

• March
• March 3 - Seven soldiers were killed when their checkpoint was attacked in Kandahar province.
• April
• April 22 - One soldier was killed in a U.S. friendly fire incident in Khost province, in which Pat Tillman was also killed.
• August
• August 1 - One soldier was killed in Helmand province.
• August 2 - Two soldiers were killed during an operation on the Pakistani border.
• August 14 - 14 pro-government militiamen were killed in factional fighting in Herat province, along with seven rebel militiamen.
• August 15 - Six soldiers were killed when their checkpoint was attacked in Kandahar province.
• September
• September 3 - One soldier was killed in a rocket attack in Nangarhar province.
• September 18 - A militia commander was killed in an ambush in Helmand province.
• September 25 - Various Taliban attacks in Helmand province killed nine soldiers.

• January 26 - Two policemen were killed in an attack on a UN refugee agency convoy in Nangahar province.

• September 19 - One soldier was killed while trying to defuse a rocket aimed at the town of Khost.

• March 2 - Seven soldiers were killed in operation "Anaconda".

• September 5 - An assassination attempt on the Afghan president in Kabul left one PMC guarding him dead along with a civilian.

200 soldiers of the Northern Alliance were estimated to have died in the initial invasion of the country.
