When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going

"When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going" is a popular song originally recorded by Billy Ocean in 1985.

Written by Wayne Braithwaite, Barry Eastmond, Robert John "Mutt" Lange and Billy Ocean, the song was used as the theme song for the Michael Douglas film, The Jewel of the Nile. Aided by a video featuring Douglas and co-stars Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito, the song became a major international hit reaching #1 on the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in February 1986 and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

Cover versions

Irish boyband, Boyzone, recorded a cover version for Comic Relief, which also reached #1 on the UK Singles Chart in March 1999. The song was also covered by German pop star Jamie Stevens on his 2002 album, Unbreakable.
