Impact

The Founder's launch was covered in the London Student in January 2007. Interviewing a number of students on campus, the newspaper concluded that The Founder seemed to have been created by people who "had done it before". The article further commented on the "professional" look of the newspaper and the "impressive" way in which it apparently operated both financially and editorially independently of both the Students' Union and the College.

Famous Editions

The Founder has produced a number of memorable front pages that have been referenced in wider and national media including

  • Lockdown! Foot and mouth outbreak near Royal Holloway
  • Broken Homes: The plight of students living in Brunel
  • 400 students without halls?

The Founder also printed an anonymous letter written by "an undergraduate student" with "an administrative job on campus" who gave an alleged reason for Holloway's drop in the league tables.

Recent Famous Writers/Editors/Contributors

Although a fledgling newspaper, The Founder is known to have good relationships with some of Royal Holloway's more notable alumni. These include Francis Wheen who is a keen supporter of the newspaper and paid for a series of advertisements of his own books in its first year to help the paper financially. While at the College, Wheen was the editor of the then newspaper, Chateau, and was disappointed that there had been no media source to serve its legacy. He was therefore pleased to see that a new newspaper had arisen.

QUAD

On Monday 17 March 2008 the newspaper launched its lifestyle supplement QUAD. Intended to fill the remaining void in Royal Holloway's media, QUAD is a glossy magazine focusing on fashion, lifestyle and extraordinary students who pursue interesting extracurricular activities.
