, 100 miles (161 km) west-northwest of Williamsport
. Early in the twentieth century, it had large powder plants and manufactories of radio tubes, incandescent lamps, paving brick, flour, iron, lumber, sole leather, etc. In 1900, 2,463 people lived in Emporium, and in 1910, 2,916 people called it home. The population was 2,526 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat

The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the borough the population was spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.6 males.

The per capita income for the borough was $15,239.
