The Earful Tower is the former icon of Disney's Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios) and current icon of the Walt Disney Studios Park at the Disneyland Resort Paris, known there as the Earffel Tower. The tower is based on water towers commonly found on Hollywood studio backlots of the first half of the 1900s, originally a safety measure to douse any fires on the film sets. It was built by Caldwell Tanks of Louisville, Kentucky in 1988. On February 15, 2008, the Earful Tower underwent a paint job to incorporate the new Disney's Hollywood Studios logo. The Earful Tower includes special lighting on the outline of the Mickey Mouse ears at night.
Overview
The Earful Tower stands at
Disney's Hollywood Studios at
Walt Disney World in
Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The tower in the park's former icon. In 2001,
The Sorcerer's Hat was built and became the icon, replacing the Earful Tower. During Christmas, a giant
Santa Claus hat with Mickey Mouse ears is put over the tower. During the Fourth of July in 2001, the
Mickey Mouse ears on the tower were decorated with the American flag. During
Star Wars Weekends, an
X-Wing can be seen coming out of the tower during commercials for the event. When the film,
101 Dalmatians, was released, the tower was painted with Dalmatian spots. The tower was also featured in TV shows that, in the 1990s, were filmed in the park during the credits. The Mickey Mouse Club show during that era is a prime example.
